0

Greetings from the Knight Center at the University of Texas at Austin!

It’s great that data journalism has become so popular around the world, but don’t you agree that it’s time to learn more about equity & ethics in the work of data journalists?

I am thrilled to invite you to join the Knight Center’s new free online course “Equity & ethics in data journalism: Hands-on approaches to getting your data right”!

This amazing course will be taught by Heather Krause, a data scientist and storyteller with over a decade of experience building tools that improve our ability to access, use and make sense of data.

During our four-week course, you will explore the practical and conceptual foundations of embedding equity and ethics in data journalism stories. Specifically, this course will guide you hands-on through the process of learning to identify inequity and hidden bias at seven key stages of the data journalism lifecycle.

For more information, please visit the course landing page, where you can find the syllabus, an introductory video from Heather, and step-by-step registration instructions.

If you have any questions, please write to the course assistant Filipa Rodrigues at filipa.rodrigues@utexas.edu.

Cheers,

@Rosental
